End of term one!

A many of you know, I have recently gone back to school to finish my bachelor's degree in business, and then go to law school.

I was introduced to Western Governors University through my aunt and uncle, Sue and Gary Wilson. I was hesitant at first because it had been so long since I last attended classes. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to keep up or that I would struggle to keep my grades high. I started my first term in September 2012. I was determined to accomplish my goal and graduate within 18 months.

February brought the end of term one, and with it, the completion of 9 classes. I have 12 classes remaining and I am on track to graduate in February 2014!!!!!!!!!

I will take my LSAT in June, and then I am off and running to start at Concordia Law in the fall of 2014!

For any of you that are considering going back to school, look into WGU!! They are a fully accredited university, and they offer both bachelor's and master's degree programs. They offer a great program for working adults. All classes are at your own pace, you finish as many classes as you can in a 6 month term, which saves you a lot of money! With ordinary, traditional classes you would only finish 3-5 classes a semester depending on your class load. You can't work ahead, you can't finish a class and move on to the next. With WGU, you can! If you have the time to out into the classes you could easily finish 9 or more classes a term, and most of your previous college credits will transfer.

Session 2!

I have never been one to have bad habits, until I got my first tattoo. I wouldn't consider it a bad habit, but it is very addictive! Over the past 8 years, I have gotten 8 tattoos and I am likely to get more. Over the last few months, two of them have merged into one. I made the decision to get my sleeve done on a bit of a whim. I have been toying with the idea for quite a while. Trying to decide if getting it was worth giving up short sleeve shirts at work. Luckily, I have a super awesome kind-of boss. I work for/with a judge, but am an employee of the Clerk's office. He is super cool with my work, or at least quiet about his dislike! :)
I was pushed over the debate edge when I saw my friend Lara's friend Jeni's new tattoo. It is amazing! And it made me super jealous to get a new one, so I did!

Here is session number 2, I have at least 2-3 more to go. I still have to decide what I am going to put on my inner arm. I am thinking a koi fish or more flowers.

New tattoo-first session.

I have been toying with the idea of getting my sleeve done for quite a while. In November, I decided to jump off of the cliff and just do it!

Here's pictures after my first sitting.

Thanks to Mike at Black Cat Tattoo in Boise! He is a SUPERSTAR!

My next session in January 12. Stay tuned for new pics!

Happy New Year!

As 2012 winds down, I am about to, once again, join the throngs of people making resolutions that they hope to keep, but will probably desert by February. Not this year. I am determined to follow my resolutions through to create a better me.
Here's where all of you come in! I may come to you one day, weak and craving something carbolicious, DON'T GIVE IT TO ME!!!!
Kathy, this means you and that treat drawer, and Lara and her stash of Almond Joys!

I figure if I write my resolutions down this year, I will have something to look at everyday to motivate and inspire me, and maybe one of you out there too.

Here's my list:

I will pass my LSAT tests with at least a 160. A lofty goal, but I won't accept less.

I will improve my eating habits. I am going to start the new year off by going on the Paleo Diet. No more refined sugars, processed foods, carb loaded filler foods or *gasp* soda.

I am going to lose the 15 pounds that I have gained since the summer of 2011. I refuse to buy new jeans to accommodate being lethargic. I will be wearing the jeans hiding in the back of my closet by this time next year!

I will have a six-pack, and not one that I can drink!

I am going to run a 5k. Not jog, stop, pant, walk a 5k. I want to wear out my barely used running shoes.

I will volunteer more. I want to make a real difference in my community.

I will learn to crochet. My goal is to make an afghan by the end of 2013.

I will finish the "10 minute skirt" pattern that I started in September.

I will learn to let go without being bitter about it, and accept the fact that there are people that are not in my life because of their own choices and not mine. I cannot change the way that they think or the things that they do. That is their burden and not mine.

I am sure that there will be more to come, but for now I think that is a good start. :)

Happy New Year!

The joys of having a son!

I have been so blessed with such a wonderful son, and I have always bragged about how easy I have it raising a boy.  I know what a pain in the ass a girl can be.  I feel terrible for the things that I put my poor mother through growing up.
Hunter is so smart, gifted and for the most part a well behaved kid.  I have always encouraged him to ask anything or tell me anything, and this has led to a fair share of strange conversations.

"Mom, do you think the civil war would have ended differently if they would have had tanks and machine guns?"

"If you are stranded and don't have any water, you can drink your own pee.  I can show you how."

But I was not prepared for the conversations that would follow the fifth grade sex talk.

Hunter's class had their sex ed classes the Friday before Christmas break  Like any involved parent, I asked him how the class went, and if he had any questions.  He then proceeded to inform me that he was going to start growing hair, and that he already had peach fuzz.  AAAAA!!!  Totally not what I expected to come out of his mouth!  I was prepared for discussing body odor, the need to shower more often, and maybe a vague conversation about "body changes."  Nope, I got the lowdown on it all!  I am glad that he is comfortable enough to share with me, I just don't know how comfortable I am with it anymore!  The conversation didn't end there though.  During the trip to Mom's house, stuck in a car with no way to escape the inevitable, came the mother of all little boy puberty questions.

"Mom, what does circumcised mean?"

The answer that followed was a stumbling of words that came out in an incoherent jumble.  Boy parts and extra skin and snipping, all the while wishing it was Dad answering this question.  I have never wanted to talk about Aunt Flow and getting your period so bad in my life! At least I know how to explain that!  I think that he understands now, I hope that my stammering about religion and babies and why people get circumcised was enough to help him understand.

To all of my friends with little boys, prepare yourselves!  Our sweet little boys are quickly growing into young men; we need to be prepared to guide them into the future as strong, intelligent men.  Even if that means having a conversation about penises!

Day One

As I sit here watching Midsomer Murders, pondering how one seemingly small English County can possibly have so many murders, I decided that now was the time to start my own blog.   A Carrie Bradshaw-ish look at my life-minus all the wild sex, over indulging on cosmos and love affair with Manolo Blahnik.  Ok, so this is more Carrie Bradshaw if she had a wild and crazy ten year-old, and over indulged on Rice Krispie treats  and no Mr. Big.  There is still the love affair with Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin, but only in pictures since I live on a government employees salary.

I figure this is the best way to keep in touch with family, and share the joys and craziness that is my life.

Hope you enjoy what is to come!
